Year 3/4 Cricket Tournament- Winners! 21 May 2014

Today, emblazoned in their new kit, eight cricketers set off to Redruth for the local Kwik Cricket tournament. The children have been training hard and were ready to put their practice in to action. Six teams were entered and it was a round robin tournament where everyone played everyone.

Our first game was against Truro Prep School who won the toss and elected to field. The Constantine boys batted positively scoring 247 from their 6 overs. The Truro team then batted and scored 215, meaning a win of 32 runs- a great start! Notable performance from the game was from Louis who took 3 wickets in one over!

In the second game we faced Bodriggy, who were confident after a big win in their previous game. The Constantine captain for the game, Ethan, won the toss and elected to field first. The boys bowled well restricting the Bodriggy team to 227 from their 6 overs. Constantine had a steady start and required 5 off 2 overs, and then 2 off the last over and Oscar hit the winning runs to win the game. A great performance to beat a very good team by 4 runs.

In the third game Constantine played Mr. Hitchens’ old primary school- Trewirgie! Again, Constantine won the toss, this time led by Jude and elected to field. The boys throughout the afternoon worked out for themselves that it is always better to bowl first as you then know the target you need to try and reach. The Trewirgie team made it to 227 following an ok bowling performance but littered with wides! The boys from Constantine then went out confidently and Jack Rogers, playing a year young, managed to smash 20 off the first over to alleviate any worries or concerns. Constantine played well to make 245 in total, winning the game by 18 runs.

The fourth game was against Lanner, and unfortunately captain, Noah lost the toss and were put in to bat. The boys in a confident mood went on to make 282 for the loss of 0 wickets. Some big hitting throughout the innings from Harry Rogers was a pleasure to watch. The Constantine boys then put in their best bowling performance restricting the Lanner team to a total of 228 and just 5 wides, a great improvement from the 21 wides in the first game! This meant that we won by 44 runs.

One game stood between an unbeaten day and champions of the regional tournament. St. Mary’s (Truro) stood in our way. Led by Daniel, he won the toss and elected to field. St Mary’s made 236 in their 6 overs and the Constantine Boys made a shaky start before the second pair, Harry and Daniel, came in and smashed 36 in their 2 overs to secure the tie. The boys eventually won by 35 runs, meaning they won the tournament and qualified for the County tournament at Truro Cricket Club on Monday 30th June.

The boys did themselves, the school and Mr. H very proud, and a massive thank you must again go to Will Lea from the Trengilly Wartha Inn for not only sponsoring the new shirts but also his coaching- thank you. Well done boys, let’s go for the title of County Champs!
