Y3/4 Mini Camp 2013 8 Jul 2013

We took 46 children to Gweek where they camped at The Helford River Gig Club for two nights and three days. This was the perfect venue with a kitchen for Mrs Skewes to prepare all our homemade meals from, toilets, sinks, two big function rooms and a very large field. All 46 of them were amazing and didn’t only learn from what we did and where we went but they learnt a great deal from each other including: understanding and appreciating others and personal differences. They valued and accepted each other, and we saw many helping friends when they were in need of a little support of comfort.

Activities included planned visits to the Lizard lighthouse and museum, a tour with the Lizard Lifeboat House and on the new Tamar Class Lifeboat ‘Rose’ on Wednesday. A sea shore safari, beach scavenge hunt, coastal walk, beach art and rock pooling on Ferry Boat Beach at the Helford Passage on Thursday. On the Friday we worked in the woods creating perfumes and making nests before swimming at Culdrose pool in the afternoon. Evening activities included games on the field, pyjama quiz and bingo, sea shanty singing and a talent show.

In this camp the children learnt many new life skills with the biggest being to take responsibility for themselves. They also had opportunities to explore local natural environments whilst enjoying the challenges set and keeping safe. All the children had a great time and taking them in Y3 and 4 is certainly something we would like to do again next year – especially as they were so well behaved.
