Science is concerned with the gaining of understanding of the physical and natural world. The children are encouraged to observe carefully; to record their observations in a variety of ways; to devise theories to explain their observations; to experiment and test; to analyse results, and to draw conclusions. During a recent Science lesson years 5 and 6 spent some time deciding on the relative sizes of the Earth, Moon and Sun. Who would have thought the Earth could be the size of a ping pong ball; the moon a pepper corn, and the sun the biggest blow up globe!
