When a soluble Vitamin C tablet is dropped into water a chemical reaction takes place: the tablet effervescent as it dissolves and carbon dioxide is released. This is an irreversible change. If the CO2 is trapped inside a sealed container (a 35mm film canister) pressure builds up inside the container until the lid pops off
