Levant Mine disaster 28 May 2021

The children from Kenwyn class enjoyed a virtual workshop with Iain from Kresen Kernow during which they learned lots about the mining history of Cornwall and examined historical sources relating to the Levant Mine disaster of 1919.

The children made some great observations and asked some perceptive questions whilst examining the sources:

“These sources are different, how do I know which is most reliable?”

“Is this a primary or secondary source?”

“Four people lived on this street. I can check the list on the other source to see if they died.”

“We found Levant Mine on this old map. I wonder if it is still there.”

“The disaster happened just after WW1 ended.”
