Day 1 of the Paralympic Journey. 3 Sep 2012

Day 1 of the Paralympic journey.

At 8am this morning, Mya Moyle, Guy Brooks and Mrs. Brooks departed Constantine for their long journey to London. They met Mr. Hitchens (me) at Truro train station with their luggage and 3 large bags of food. The train journey was pleasant and we played backgammon on the iPod, Guy was extremely good at this and only lost once for the whole journey.

We soon arrived into the hustle and bustle of London Paddington, immediately the difference to home in Constantine was evident as people were flying in all directions, armed with various sized bags. We made our way to the bus stop, where we travelled to Old Street to check into our modern hotel.

A quick freshen up and we were soon out again, on our way to the London Eye. We were fortunate that it was relatively quiet and within minutes we were on the London Eye. Mya was extremely nervous, however, when in the pod seemed to love each second, taking pleasure in looking down from the top, something I wasn’t too keen to do! We were able to see many of the landmarks in London, such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, Westminster, Wembley Stadium, The Gerkin, The Shard and The Oval cricket ground, just to name a few.

When we got back onto the ground, we took a walk down the South Bank where there were many entertainers for us to enjoy. A favourite of everyone’s was an African acrobatic group who stunned us with their skills!

Eventually, we tracked down Pizza Express and had a lovely meal and just as Mya had finished her meal, she fell asleep! This meant we left and made the short journey back to the hotel for an early night in preparation for our big day at the Olympic Stadium. Bring it on!
