Treleague Dairy 6 Mar 2018

Year 4 has a great day at Treleague Dairy with Mrs Skewes showing us around. We saw first hand how and where the cows are milked, where they live, roam and feed, how the milk is pasteurised, separates and bottled. One of the best bits was having a milkshake with this super fresh milk.

In addition we fed the lambs and calves and saw calves that were only born 48 hours before we arrived. The milking parlour was exciting as we saw the computers tracking the amount of milk each cow produced, cleaned udders and moved equipment into place ready for the next cows to be milked. Some of us narrowly missed getting pooed on!

Luckily we are learning all about hygiene and keeping clean in our E-Bug learning project at school, so we cleaned our hands thoroughly before eating and drinking. Did you also notice that the milk was in glass bottles? This is brilliant as Treleague dairy farm are promoting the use of bottles that can be used again rather than single use plastics – this is something our school is very passionate about promoting. What a great visit to a fantastic farm. Thankyou Treleague!
