Year 5 are learning about journalistic writing. So far we have investigated the layout of newspaper front pages and looked at how to write headlines and leads.

Soon we will write cover stories about wartime events and about alien invasion.

In the meantime, we have written headlines and leads to well known traditional tales.

We learned that headlines had to be short, punchy, sensational and sometimes funny. The lead paragraph needs to include some of the six Ws: What, Where, When, Who, Why and hoW.
