Swimming Gala 2017 16 Nov 2017

This year we took 22 swimmers to the gala. Even though this is a Y 5 and 6 event, we had swimmers from Y3 to 6 competing. A number of local schools know we take swimming very seriously and we are often asked for swimmers to fill their team spaces. We had 16 children representing us and 6 children swimming for Mawnan Smith, Flushing, Kennal Vale and Perranarworthal Schools. We were most proud that those who weren’t selected at our trials were willing to help out other schools who couldn’t make up complete teams – what great sportsmanship! It was a great competition and despite two of our best swimmers being poorly on the day, we still won overall (by 5 points) and brought home 15 gold medals and the winning trophy. What a fantastic result! We now wait to hear if any have made it through to the Cornwall School Games Qualifying event in January 2018.
I am so proud of every single swimmer. All of them swam like never before and put 110% into their races whether swimming for us or another school. Many children were swimming in this highly competitive event for the first time and they all did them selves and their school very proud. Many thanks to our drivers and supporting parents and staff whom we would not have been able to take part.
A huge well done to the following who all deserve a mention: Y3: Calixto, Y4: Charlie, Rona, Martha D, Rosie, Y5: Helen, Mirryn, Gracey, Freya, Theo, Frankie, Isaac, Y6: Olivia, Lily, Kirsty, Polly, Jameson, Ronan, Barney CG, Alec, William and Kaiden.
