Spreadsheet Modelling on the iPads 1 Feb 2013

In a lesson about spreadsheet modelling, children were introduced to Numbers on the iPad and shown how to create formulas. They were given a problem to solve: make a sandwich for every child in the class for under £10.00.
They used online shopping websites such as Ocado to research prices of ingredients and they inserted the prices into their spreadsheets. They used multiplication and addition formulas to model what would happen if they bought more/less, cheaper/more expensive ingredients. Because they had used formulas, as they changed the prices and quantities of their ingredients, the grand total changed automatically.
You can see by the photos how engaged the children were in the activity and how much they collaborated with each other to solve the problem.
