Shapes are Everywhere 2 Oct 2017

Mrs G set up an orienteering course outside for us today in maths. It was great fun. We had to find the location, look at the shape and identify it by its faces, vertices and edges. Some were quite tricky and the names were new to us. It was challenging and fun. Any shapes we were stuck on we had to remember and then make using marshmallows and cocktail sticks. The marshmallows represented vertices, the stick were the edges and the open spaces between were the faces. It made it a lot clearer to see this way and it was great fun – especially eating the marshmallows afterwards!

New words to us were: hexagonal prism, tetrahedron, square based pyramid.
