Punctuation outdoors 20 May 2013

In Literacy, Kenwyn are working hard on their punctuation. We have been revising why punctuation is needed, and what each mark does.

Today we looked at commas, dashes, semi-colons and full stops and examined the different strengths of each mark. So we went outside – no surprise – and found four objects of various sizes that fit into our hand. Each object then became a mark of punctuation, and was used in sentences, with the words represented by a stick or piece of grass. The children worked brilliantly, as can be seen in our tweets; although I wonder if they will be able to transfer this to their writing…
