My Day in a Wheelchair, by Darcy Pascoe, Kenwyn Class 15 Oct 2012

Tuesday 10th October

My name is Darcy and I took on the wonderful challenge of spending a whole school day in a wheelchair. But, no, this wasn’t any old school day.

8.55am: I got out a dark blue wheelchair, unfolded it, and sat down. It felt unusual to be sitting in a chair and then pushing these massive wheels with my hands to move. I felt a bit sad because people were saying “Ha ha! You’re in a wheelchair,” and I felt like I wanted to shout at them and say “Please stop! Treat people how you want to be treated.”

So that’s how my school day went in a wheelchair.
