Maritime Museum 8 Oct 2015

Our visit to the Maritime Museum was brilliant. We learnt about Sir Francis Drake and his amazing voyage around the world. What a daring and crazy pirate he was! He didn’t find new lands or bring back sultanas as instructed by Queen Elizabeth 1st – but he did find lots of treasures. However, we were left wondering why he stopped off at La Rochelle before heading back home?¬†We also looked at the Robinson family adventure that went terribly wrong when killer whales bore a hole in the side of their yacht: 2 children, 4 adults, 38 days on 1 vast ocean in a small dinghy!
We climbed the 165 steps to the top of the tower and back down again and also explored the rest of the museum. Racing the sail boats was also a hit. What a fabulous day!
