Cross Country Area Event 2012 5 Feb 2012

On the coldest day this year 30 of our children entered into the cross country area event held at Penryn Rugby Club. Although it was a dry day the temperatures were in the minus figures! There were races for boys and girls in Years 4, 5 and 6 and we even had some keen Year 3 children who wanted to enter; they were allowed and encouraged by the organisers to compete in the Year 4 races. Our team ran in our new red and blue Mc Donalds vests (sponsored by Mc Donalds, Falmouth) so we were easy to spot on parts of the course that spectators could see. We are extremely proud of all our children who entered and completed the races, especially as some didn’t really know what they had let themselves in for!

We had some amazing results, some of the best ever for our school in the last 15 years infact (since Mrs Gilbert has been attending this event). All 30 children ran well in quite literally, freezing conditions. We were delighted at the end of the afternoon to have 11 children qualifying for the next round by coming in the top 8 of their races; this included two Year 3 children who raced in the Year 4 Boys race; well done Joris and George 🙂 We were also extremely proud to have gained a first and second position in the Y5 girls race with Vera coming 1st and Daisy coming 2nd. Well done girls you had a brilliant run.  Huge thanks must go to Dave Collins who has been coaching our children on a Friday morning before school in all weathers for a number of years now. Take a look below at the exciting, yet chilly afternoon we had:
