Boats Galore! 29 May 2012

As part of the Queens Diamond Jubilee the Monarch will travel in a special Royal Barge leading a flotilla of at least 1,000 boats down the River Thames, according to plans announced yesterday.

Between 30,000 to 40,000 people will be on the river during the event which will take place on June 3, 2012 to celebrate the Queen’s diamond jubilee.

More than one million people are expected to line the banks of the Thames for a “once in a lifetime party”.

The Diamond Jubilee River Pageant will be one of the highlights of a special four-day bank holiday weekend created to mark the Jubilee.

As a school we are making our own Pageant of boats which will be displayed in panels in Constantine during the Jubilee celebrations. To see you work take a look in the big marquee that will be in the Recreation Ground. Helford Class have been concentrating on Cornish Pilot Gigs as several have been chosen to take part on the Thames. One very special gig is called Golden Gear. She lives on the Helford River and is rowed by the members of Helford River Gig Club.  During the Jubilee Pageant she will be decorated in cornish tartan and cornish flags so look out for her on tv.  Here you can see our work in progress:
