Antarctic Cookery 30 Sep 2016

Tamar class have been cooking today with Mrs Skewes and Mrs Moyle. Antarctica, for obvious reasons, does not have a rich culinary tradition, but our dedicated cookery teachers found some authentic Antarctic recipes for our class to try: pemmican, sledging biscuits and freshly baked bread. 

Pemmican is a protein and fat rich, highly calorific dehydrated meat cake. The addition of dried cranberries to the pemmican provides valuable vitamin C. Sledging biscuits are a highly portable and non perishable source of carbohydrates, essential for intrepid Antarctic explorers.
